Preparing for the Dream

While 'Salt Lake City' may roll at the end of the credits of a lot of movies, it doesn't mean that this city has an abundance of acting jobs waiting to be picked up. I have been fortunate enough to be at the right place at the right time and land a few commercials, but that is the extent of my work in The Beehive State.

No movies, no theater-but I can't blame anyone else but myself. Like any other field, to be an expert you have to do your research. When I moved here in early 2006 from North Carolina I thought that this was going to be a step in the right direction for my acting career.
To be honest it has. I have taken an acting workshop from Frank Gerrish and learned a lot. In fact, it was that class that introduced me to the right people and landed my first commercial. I was 20 or 21, "What did I do right"? I asked.
I was told that I had a charisma about me and a great smile. I lit-up, I was floating on clouds. I was asked to do three other commercials with the same people. From that point on I thought I would be offered jobs left and right.

Without Director Lance Huber and his Assistant, Stephanie Hough, my resume would not exist. So while I started this entry intending to comment on the fact that I have not had any opportunities, I have changed my mind. I have had many opportunities and I am thankful for the experience, but I would be lying if I didn't tell you that I am hungry for more.

Everything I do is a step in the right direction, no matter how big or small- I'm taking the steps and I have been preparing for the dream. I preparing by going to school and making myself as well rounded as I can, so when I do move to New York the dream will be looking for me.
